Established in October 1998, Inner Mongolia Yitai Zhundong Railroad Co., Ltd. was a controlled company initiated by Inner Mongolia Yitai Coal Co., Ltd. and was jointly built by China Railway Construction and Development Center and Inner Mongolia Venture Group. Currently, the company has 1,554 million Yuan registered capital, the shareholding ratio of Inner Mongolia Yitai Coal Co., Ltd. is 96.27%, and that of Inner Mongolia State-owned Capital Management Co., Ltd. is 3.74%. The company is mainly engaged in the railway transportation, railway cargo services, vehicle and railway repair services, etc. In 2017, the company transported 69,600,000 tons of coal.


Yitai Zhundong Railway is the major railway of the company’s railway transportation network. It connects the company’s coal mines in Dongsheng Coal Field with Dazhun Railway and Huzhun Railway, and further connects with Daqin Railway through Dazhun Railway, and connects with Jingbao Railway through Huzhun Railway. It plays an important role for the coal transport from the west China to the east China. It is a section of the planned Datong-Shizuishan Railway and is the key channel for coal transportation in  Erdos region which has been included in China’s medium and long term plan for the railway coal transportation system.


The first phase of Yitai Zhundong Railway will be built as a single line electric railway in two periods. The length of the first phase is 72.6 km, extending from Xiyingzi, Dongsheng Coal Field to Zhoujiawan Railway Station, Jungar Banner in the east. The project was started on November 8, 1998 and was completed and put into use on December 16, 2000. In September 2003, the company implemented the electrification transformation for Zhundong Railway and effectively extended the useful length of the arrival-departure track to 1,050 meters, and increased the traction capacity to 5,000 tons, and realized electric traction in the entire line. The railway was put into use again on April 23, 2005.


The second phase of Yitai Zhundong Railway extends from Hushi Railway Station to Zhunger Temple Railway Station in the west. The length of the second phase is 59.84 km, started construction from July 2006 and was put into use on June 28, 2010. It expands the passway for the transportation of the clean coal produced in Dongsheng Coal Field, and has significant meaning for promoting the development of Dongsheng Coal Field, Shenfu Coal Field and Jungar Coal Field, and for increasing the external transportation capacity of local coal products.


Meanwhile, the company has invested and built the double line for the first phase Zhundong Railway to meet the transportation requirements when the second phase is put into use and meet the demand as the development of the company’s coal business. The double line starts from Zhoujiawan Railway Station in the east to Hushi Railway station in the west. With a total length of 59.35km, it can meet the requirement for 10,000 tons trains. The double line makes Zhundong Railway become a major transportation channel connecting Dazhun Railway and Huzhun Railway in the east and the New Baoshen Railway in the west, and it has significant meaning for promoting the development of Dongsheng Coal Field, Jungar Coal Field and surrounding areas.
